Liza Tainton

Chief Risk Officer

“This is a complicated, fascinating business. It’s also very rewarding — especially if you work hard and commit yourself to being a life-long learner.”

Eliza (Liza) Tainton began her career in wealth management in San Francisco when she was 20 years old. She says she fell in love with the business from the very first moment she started working, and she’s never once looked back. Today, as Chief Risk Officer for U.S. Bank Wealth Management, Liza is in a unique position to add value to U.S. Bank and its clients. She leads Wealth Management’s Risk Management Team and is a member of the Executive Committee.

Liza joined U.S. Bank in 2015. Previously, she was the Chief Risk Officer for HighTower Advisors in Chicago. Prior to that, she worked with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s Global Wealth Management Group, where she held a variety of positions, most recently as the Illinois Risk Officer. Liza has also worked for Credit Suisse First Boston in San Francisco.

“Throughout my career, I’ve had a number of wonderful mentors who have taught me to approach work with a combination of joy and balance. I’ve been very lucky in that regard. Great mentors have made the difference for me in an industry that is always changing and where you never stop learning.”

Liza applies many of the same lessons she learned from her mentors to help her manage and advance her own teams. “This is a complicated, fascinating business. It’s also very rewarding — especially if you work hard and commit yourself to being a life-long learner. The best advice I can give someone who is interested in this business is to work hard and be committed to making a difference. If you do, you will succeed, and you will likely be rewarded with more opportunity.”

Education and community involvement
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Liza attended Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Illinois. She holds a B.A. in management from Saint Mary’s College of California.

In her spare time, Liza supports an organization known as 100 Women Who Care Geneva. She is also interested in causes that support animal welfare, the arts and culture, children, education, the environment, and disaster and humanitarian relief.
